New BusinessEurope President, Maciej Witucki, calls for Poland’s regulatory simplification to be taken as an example

Mr. Maciej Witucki

The new president of the employer's organisation BusinessEurope, Maciej Witucki of Poland, highlighted at the Forum Europa in Brussels that one of the examples his country can offer is the positive economic impact of advocating for regulatory simplification.

Witucki made these remarks at the event organised by New Economy Forum in the EU capital, held on his second day as president of the European employer's organisation, where he was asked about the factors behind Poland’s status as one of the European countries with the strongest economic performance since its accession to the European Union in 2004.

“We are a young and dynamic country within the EU”, said Witucki, who warned that “excessive regulation holds entrepreneurs back when it comes to developing their businesses” and investing.

In any case, he clarified that he is not advocating the complete dismantling of the social and economic model developed in Europe over recent decades, but rather that we should analyse whether regulations that were valid 30 years ago remain so today.

The important thing, in his view, is to ensure that companies do not have to devote too much time and resources to complying with regulations, as this diverts them from their primary objective, which is to grow their business.

Furthermore, he emphasised that “we Poles are optimistic Europeans” and contrasted this view with that which citizens of other countries that have been in the European Union for longer – such as Germany, France or Italy – may hold when it comes to perceiving its benefits.
